Replicating
the balustrade system for the famous historical Converse
Dalton House in downtown Valdosta Georgia required South's
Finest, LLC to pass an extensive review by The Lowndes
County Historical Society. Most members insisted on reproducing
this ornate and complex railing system in authentic heart
pine. Our successes with historical reproductions prevailed
over the accuracy, cost and time frame of that approach.
By restoring what could be salvaged, and then reproducing
each piece in handmade FRP, the resulting balustrade
is better than new. We were congratulated by the community
for accomplishing a hard task in FRP rather than the
beautiful but vulnerable indigenous wood used so extensively
in the past. It is impossible to tell without physically
knocking on the balustrade that it is not heart
pine.
We have also replicated the look and feel of many types
of stone for historically accurate restorations. |
